Participants meet in a Zoom room and actively engage in writing in a supported environment where they will receive guidance and feedback. Past participants have reported that committing to attending these times have helped to hold them accountable to getting work done on their applications in a timely manner. St. Scholastica M.S.OT Admissions Updates

The College of St. ScholasticaÌýhasÌýtwo exciting changes to the St. Scholastica M.S. in Occupational Therapy admission requirements for applicants in the next cycle – starting July 2021:
1. WeÌýNO LONGERÌýrequire the GRE!
2. Re: OT prerequisites – weÌýWILLÌýaccept AP credits for General Psychology and Statistics.
The CSS MSOTÌýadmissions websiteÌýhas been updated. We have also posted a virtual observation experience on that page, which has been of interest to many prospective students, especially when obtaining in-person hours is so difficult/impossible. This is optional, of course, but a great resource for many!

Western University COMP-Northwest & OPSO: How to Write an Effective Personal Statement

Tuesday, April 13, 2021 6:00pm-8:00pm | PST

This month’s topic is “How to Write an Effective Personal Statement.” Join us as current medical school applicants read their personal statements live. After each reading we’ll hear feedback from John T. Pham, DO, Vice Dean of COMP-Northwest, and a team of current medical students, followed by feedback and discussion with the audience.

Discover Dental School

This University of Minnesota program is for pre-dental students* and will take place Monday, July 12 – Saturday, July 31, 2021. The program will runÌýpart-time, with some sessions occurring during the day as well as evenings and/or weekends – to enable more prospective dental students to participate who may already have summer plans.

The exact format of the program is still TBD, as the ongoing pandemic impacts our ability to host in-person events.ÌýPlan for a hybrid experience,Ìýwith live Zoom sessions, asynchronous online learning via Canvas, and potentially some live sessions at the dental school with social distancing and safety protocols in place (required mask wearing, enhanced sanitation, etc.). There is no cost to participate in the program!

The deadline is Sunday, April 18, 2021 @ 11:59pm CST – no late applications will be accepted
The application includes three required essays andÌýone letter of recommendation that must also be submitted by the deadline.ÌýApplicants will be notified if they have been selected for the program by Friday, April 30, 2021.

Students* selected to participate in this program will be provided with training, resources, and experiences to strengthen their skills and assist them in creating a competitive application to dental school. Experiences may include DAT prep, connecting with current dental students, and hands-on activities. More information will be provided to students selected for the program.

*All students who have completed at least two full semesters of undergraduate education following their high school graduation are eligible to apply. PSEO/IB/CIS/AP coursework completed during high school does not apply. Not all who apply will be selected to participate. Preference given to rising sophomores and juniors in college as well as students who are underrepresented in dentistry, from a rural area, first-generation college students, lower socioeconomic status, and/or transfer students from a community college.

Augsburg Pre-PA Club Info Session

The Augsburg Pre-PA Club will be hosting an informational session onÌýTuesday, April 13th at 6:00 pm via ZoomÌýregarding what a physician assistant is, information about PA programs, and additional resources to best prepare for PA school! After receiving input on meeting times via the survey, Tuesdays at 6:00p worked best for most people to meet, if you are unable to attend I will be recording the meeting again. If you plan on attending PA school or unsure which health profession is for you, I hope you can attend to learn something new and informative! Additional meeting information will be sent out next week with the Zoom link.

Mayo Med School 101

Med School 101 is a free seminar that provides valuable information and tips about applying to medical school.ÌýMed School 101 includes information about:

There will also be a question and answer session with a panel of current medical students and additional information for students specifically interested in applying to Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine.

Pre-Medical Student Organization (PMSO)

Mission Statement: To provide a welcoming community for Pre-Medical students wishing to grow their knowledge on medicine and to increase their chance of acceptance into medical school.

They will provide, medical terminology knowledge and practice, human and anatomy knowledge and practice, MCAT problems and problem explanation, practice medical cases to learn how physicians approach patient care, discovering discrimination in medicine and current issues in healthcare, specialty information, and how to make yourself a competitive applicant into medical school.

In the future they hope to provide resources such as MCAT resources, informational sessions and guest speakers such as MDs, DOs, and medical students.

Rush University MS in Respiratory Care Program

The admissions team at Rush University College of Health Sciences is currently looking for prospective students for the MS in Respiratory Care program.

Respiratory care is not a widely known or considered profession. Many of our prospective students happen upon the field of respiratory care and once learning more, enroll in our program. Upon graduating from the program, alumni have very successful healthcare careers.

This program prepares graduates to be leaders in the profession. There is a high demand for qualified professionals and the projected growth rate for jobs in respiratory care from 2018-2028 is 21% much faster than average.

We thought you might have advisees who would be good candidates for this medical specialty program. The Master of Science inÌýÌýis a program focused on teaching students how to become health care providers who specialize on the cardiovascular and respiratory functions of patients. Respiratory therapists are engaged in patient assessment, care plan development and direct patient care. Respiratory therapists work in tandem with all health care providers who are assigned to a patient. There is job availability in hospitals, clinical settings and physicians’ offices.

The Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) Focus on Your Future Summer Program

The (ICO) will host its 14th annual Focus on Your Future Summer Program for underrepresented minority undergraduate students virtually this July. The program is a week-long experience that will expose undergraduate students to the profession of optometry in a variety of settings. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with current optometry students, ICO Faculty & Staff, as well as practicing optometrists.

There is no cost to participate in this virtual program.
