First-Year Students

You are a first-year student if you have not yet attended a college or university, and you have recently or will soon graduate from high school. If you are currently enrolled in a college or university, you are most likely a transfer or graduate student.

Application Process

To apply as a first-year applicant, please follow these steps towards becoming an Auggie:

  1. Complete the
  2. Submit a non-refundable application fee of $100.00 (US Dollars)
  3. Request official secondary school transcripts, exam results, and/or mark sheets be sent directly to Augsburg
  4. Request one letter of academic recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor (optional)
  5. To fulfill Augsburg University’s English Language Proficiency Requirement, all applicants must provide evidence of a sufficient command of both written and spoken English. Non-native to the US English language speakers may be exempt from this requirement and request a waiver based on the successful demonstration of one of the following (applicants may be asked to provide official documentation):
    • Completion of a previous high school diploma, undergraduate or graduate degree who reside in English-speaking countries and/or study in English-medium institutions outside of the United States.
    • Completion of a previous high school diploma that includes a minimum of 4 credits of English (or equivalent of the MN Department of Education High School degree requirements), undergraduate or graduate degree at a college or university within the United States.
    • Completion of at least one semester of study (12 credits or more) as an exchange student at Augsburg University with the GPA of 3.0 or higher.
    • For the purpose of accessing English Language proficiency, SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Score of 570 and/or ACT English and Reading score of 22.
    • Completion of one academic year of transferable college level English courses (e.g.: Composition, writing, etc.) at a college or university within the United States, with equivalent grades of a B or higher.
    • Completion of at least level 4 of the Minnesota English Language Program (MELP) at the University of Minnesota.
    • NORAM applicants who have achieved a grade of 4 or higher in the core subject of English from videregÃ¥ende skole (high school).

      Outside of the exemptions listed above, prospective international students may demonstrate English language proficiency through one of the following:

      • (TOEFL)
        • Minimum score of 80 on the Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) with a sub-score of 20 on the written and 20 on the speaking sections. (The Augsburg University TOEFL code is 6014.)
        • Score of 8.5 or better on the TOEFL Essentials exam.
      • (IELTS)
        • Score report of 6.5.
        • Score of 105.

      Score reports must be sent to Augsburg directly from the testing center.
