  {"id":23294,"date":"2025-09-01T15:02:37","date_gmt":"2025-09-01T15:02:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/womensstudies\/?page_id=23294"},"modified":"2025-09-01T15:04:13","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T15:04:13","slug":"degree-requirements","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/womensstudies\/degree-requirements\/","title":{"rendered":"Degree Requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">REQUIREMENTS FOR A MINOR (2025-2026)<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Gender, Sexuality, and Women\u2019s Studies Program at Augsburg University offers three minors:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Gender, Sexuality, and Women\u2019s Studies<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Global Women\u2019s and Gender Studies<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Sexuality Studies<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Gender, Sexuality, and Women\u2019s Studies Minor<\/h3>\n<p>Five courses that must include WST 201; WST 315; and three electives, one of which must be upper division. Courses may be taken from the other ACTC colleges as well as Augsburg. Each student\u2019s program must have the written approval of the Gender, Sexuality, and Women\u2019s Studies Program Coordinator.<\/p>\n<h3>Sexuality Studies Minor or Concentration<\/h3>\n<p>The 20-credit minor in Global Women\u2019s and Gender Studies offers students the opportunity to focus on women\u2019s roles, experiences, and worldviews in a global context. Students are required to take three core courses plus two electives (one of which must be upper division), as follows:<\/p>\n<p>Core Courses in Global Women\u2019s and Gender Studies:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>POL 359 \u2013 Topics: Women in Comparative Politics<\/li>\n<li>WST 201 \u2013 Introduction to Gender, Sexuality, and Women\u2019s Studies<\/li>\n<li>WST 315 \u2013 Margins as Center: Feminist Theory<\/li>\n<li>Two electives, including at least one upper division elective, chosen from:\n<ul>\n<li>WST 250 \u2013 Global Perspectives on Gender and Sexuality<\/li>\n<li>WST 281\/481 \u2013 Topics<\/li>\n<li>WST 313 \u2013 Environmental Theology and Ethics<\/li>\n<li>WST 341 \u2013 Globalization, Social Struggles and the Environment<\/li>\n<li>WST 357 \u2013 Mexican History, Culture and Cosmovision<\/li>\n<li>WST 362 \u2013 Walking the Truth: Culture, Gender and Millennium Development Goals in Sub-Saharan Africa<\/li>\n<li>WST 366 \u2013 Latin American Liberation Theologies and Social Change<\/li>\n<li>AIS 208 \u2013 Native American\/First Nations Women and Film<\/li>\n<li>AIS 305 \u2013 Indigenous Issues of Central America<\/li>\n<li>ENL 365 \u2013 Contemporary Postcolonial Theory and Literature<\/li>\n<li>HIS 195 \u2013 Topics in History: Promoting Justice and Seeking Equality \u2013 Globalization and Women\u2019s Grassroots Movements in Latin America<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students are strongly encouraged to study abroad or to take at least one travel seminar.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sexuality Studies Minor<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The 20-credit minor in Sexuality Studies offers students the opportunity to explore the history, social construction, and physiology of sexuality and to examine the cultural meanings of gender, sexual orientation, and sexual practice on a global level. Students are required to take three core courses plus two electives (one of which must be upper division), as follows:<\/p>\n<p>Core Courses in Sexuality Studies:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>WST 201 \u2013 Introduction to Gender, Sexuality, and Women\u2019s Studies<\/li>\n<li>SOC 266 \u2013 Sociology of Love, Intimacy, and Sexuality<\/li>\n<li>WST 305 \u2013 Introduction to Queer Studies<\/li>\n<li>Two electives, including at least one upper-division elective, chosen from:<\/li>\n<li>WST 250 \u2013 Global Perspectives on Gender and Sexuality<\/li>\n<li>WST 315 \u2013 Margins as Center: Feminist Theory<\/li>\n<li>HPE 316 \u2013 Human Sexuality<\/li>\n<li>WST 281\/481 \u2013 Topics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Transfer Students<\/h2>\n<p>Students who transfer to Augsburg University and wish to complete a major or minor in Gender, Sexuality, and Women\u2019s Studies are urged to consult with the director of Gender, Sexuality, and Women\u2019s Studies immediately upon transfer. The Gender, Sexuality, and Women\u2019s Studies program has an articulation agreement with Century College and with Inver Hills Community College that governs students from these institutions with a Women\u2019s Studies certificate who transfer to Augsburg.
