Please join us in extending a hearty congratulations to first-year Augsburg student, Jennifer Iza, on her acceptance into the Phillips Scholars Program. Phillips Scholars join a year-long cohort of ten students from private colleges and universities in Minnesota and develop summer programs that address community needs.Â
Jennifer is originally from Ecuador and immigrated to the United States in mid-2023. At ten years old, she began imagining herself as a physician serving communities that government and social services fail to reach. Today, as a Biology student with a minor in Spanish, she is pursuing that childhood promise. Her journey has taught her that meaningful change begins with understanding both systems and people.
Jennifer will spend a year learning alongside other scholars, receiving guidance and support in developing a project that she will complete in the summer of 2027. Stay tuned to learn about what she comes up with!
“Phillips Scholars create and test innovative ideas that address community problems — running their own summer programming. There’s support along the way, with the students coming together to develop their leadership skills and prepare for their projects. Scholars receive more than $9,000 in scholarships and stipends. Ten students from 15 eligible Minnesota private colleges and universities will be selected each year.â€Â
Applications for 2027-28 Phillips Scholars are due in February 2027, you can .
