He led the institution for nearly 25 years, during which time Augsburg made vigorous efforts to expand and enhance academic offerings.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>1967: 50 Years Ago<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8207\" src=\"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/11\/1967.jpg\" alt=\"Simon and Garfunkel\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/11\/1967.jpg 160w, https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/11\/1967-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 100px) 100vw, 100px\" \/><\/h2>\n<p>Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel played for more than 3,000 people in Si Melby Hall on Nov. 10, 1967. According to an Augsburg Echo review, the lengthiest applause was reserved for the song, \u201cTo Emily, Wherever I Might Find Her.\u201d The same year saw the openings of Urness Hall and the Christensen Center, with the Marshall Room at the time serving as a faculty lounge to the resentment of the Echo\u2019s editorial board.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>1977: 40 Years Ago<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8208\" src=\"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/11\/1977.jpg\" alt=\"Andersen Music Hall\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/11\/1977.jpg 160w, https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2017\/11\/1977-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 100px) 100vw, 100px\" \/><\/h2>\n<p>Construction began on what is now the Charles S. Anderson Music Hall, which would open a year later, bringing the entire music department under one roof for the first time in 100 years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>1987: 30 Years Ago<\/h2>\n<p>Augsburg began offering its first graduate degree program, the Master of Arts in Leadership. Lindell Library, which opened a decade earlier.
