When members of the team learned that Theophilos\u2019 mother had died in Ethiopia\u2014a home\u00a0Theophilos hasn\u2019t seen for nearly 35 years\u2014and that Theophilos missed her funeral because he didn\u2019t\u00a0have the money to visit, the team created a fundraiser.<\/p>\n In less than 48 hours, the players and Auggies\u00a0worldwide raised thousands of dollars for\u00a0Theophilos to use to visit his family. Minasie Theophilos <\/span><\/strong>has cared for Augsburg\u2019s athletic facilities\u2014most notably the ice arena\u2014during his more than 25 years of service on the College\u2019s custodial staff. Theophilos and the men\u2019s\u00a0hockey team<\/a> developed a life-changing relationship that was shared by media outlets across the\u00a0United States and around the globe.<\/p>\n\n
