The Auggies sang, danced, and acted in a Vaudeville-style production, using techniques honed on the stages of Augsburg College.<\/p>\n<p>Described as \u201cLawrence Welk meets Hee Haw,\u201d the production was produced by Sod House Theater and spearheaded by actor and director <strong>Darcey Engen \u201988<\/strong>, chair of Augsburg\u2019s Theater Arts Department, and <strong>Luverne Seifert \u201983<\/strong>, actor and senior teaching specialist at the University of Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>The original show featured \u201cacts performed by a touring cast with appearances by several Augsburg alumni friends along the way,\u201d according to Engen. \u201cWe were thrilled to be performing with Auggies in historic ballrooms and other venues across Minnesota where live music and dancing originated and many of our parents fell in love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Engen and Seifert secured four Augsburg theater alumni and one current student to perform, including <strong>Lisa (Pestka) Anderson \u201986<\/strong>, <strong>David Deblieck \u201988<\/strong>, <strong>Kari (Eklund) Logan \u201982<\/strong>, <strong>Deb Pearson \u201983<\/strong>, and <strong>Riley Parham \u201918<\/strong>. Another Augsburg alumnus, <strong>Justin Caron \u201913<\/strong>, assisted with costumes.<\/p>\n<p>For the alumni, participating in \u201cThe Hoopla Train\u201d offered an opportunity to reconnect with longtime friends and to recall past Augsburg theater experiences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of my happiest memories were made on the stage at Augsburg,\u201d said Logan. \u201cIt was wonderful to be back together with some of the people who played a role in making them.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Augsburg College alumni and a current student jumped aboard \u201cThe Hoopla Train with Yard Master Yip and his Polkastra\u201d at multiple stops of the show\u2019s Minnesota-based summer tour, which included performances in communities ranging from St. Cloud to New Ulm.
