{"id":4589,"date":"2015-04-06T21:45:57","date_gmt":"2015-04-06T21:45:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/?p=4589"},"modified":"2016-02-16T20:16:57","modified_gmt":"2016-02-16T20:16:57","slug":"many-voices-bold-visions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/2015\/04\/06\/many-voices-bold-visions\/","title":{"rendered":"Many voices, bold visions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Augsburg College Convocation Series each year offers the community a chance\u00a0to hear from outstanding leaders and visionaries who ignite important conversations\u00a0and contribute to making the world a safer place for future generations.\u00a0The first event held during the spring semester was the <strong>Martin Luther King, Jr.\u00a0Convocation<\/strong> in January, featuring collaboration among on-campus student groups\u00a0and ARTS-Us, a St. Paul-based arts education organization; Dare 2 Be Real, a\u00a0Twin Cities-based interracial student leadership program; and Triad:4Christ, a\u00a0renowned gospel choir led by Jamar Esaw \u201905.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Batalden Seminar in Applied Ethics<\/strong> in February welcomed\u00a0<strong>Rami Nashashibi<\/strong>, executive director of the Inner-City Muslim\u00a0Action Network and a visiting professor at the Chicago Theological\u00a0Seminary. Nashashibi spoke on \u201cThe Sociology of Seerah:\u00a0Reclaiming Prophetic Tradition for Our Time and Place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Koryne Horbal Lecture<\/strong> in March featured <strong>Janell Hobson<\/strong>,\u00a0associate professor of Women\u2019s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies\u00a0at the University at Albany.
