{"id":12372,"date":"2023-03-15T14:20:51","date_gmt":"2023-03-15T14:20:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/?p=12372"},"modified":"2023-03-15T14:20:51","modified_gmt":"2023-03-15T14:20:51","slug":"womens-hockey-travels-to-europe-for-games-and-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/2023\/03\/15\/womens-hockey-travels-to-europe-for-games-and-growth\/","title":{"rendered":"Women\u2019s hockey travels to Europe for games and growth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>We&#8217;ll sing the Auggie War Song,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>We&#8217;ll shout the battle cry,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>We&#8217;ll fight the Auggie battles,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Auggies ever, do or die!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Augsburg\u2019s school song could be heard overseas this past December as the women\u2019s hockey team traveled from Helsinki, Finland, to Stockholm, Sweden, to play three exhibition games against international teams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful and excited to continue the tradition of an international trip,\u201d said head coach <strong>Michelle McAteer<\/strong>. \u201cPlayers often say it\u2019s one of their best experiences to travel and compete overseas. It is the ultimate road trip!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This was the fifth international trip for Augsburg women\u2019s hockey. The team traveled with a group of more than 70 people including coaches, staff, and family members.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12485\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12485\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12485 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/02\/Augsburg_Womens_Hockey_Team_Trip.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/02\/Augsburg_Womens_Hockey_Team_Trip.png 300w, https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/02\/Augsburg_Womens_Hockey_Team_Trip-768x512.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12485\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Augsburg women&#8217;s hockey team at a ski jump at ISKU arena in Lahti, Finland (Courtesy photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Auggies played games against HIFK and Hollola from Helsinki and Hammarby from Stockholm.<\/p>\n<p>Winning two of the three games was great, but the real highlight of the trip was interacting with players and coaches from other countries. After every game, the Auggies joined the host teams with a shared meal to connect about hockey and life.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, they toured the cities, visiting local and famous sites like the Nobel Prize Museum and Stockholm City Hall. At the Vasa Museum, they saw a preserved warship from 1628 and learned about its history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInternational travel broadens our perspective as we navigate different cultures, languages, and experiences.
