{"id":11715,"date":"2022-02-22T17:21:41","date_gmt":"2022-02-22T17:21:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/?p=11715"},"modified":"2022-02-22T17:21:41","modified_gmt":"2022-02-22T17:21:41","slug":"augsburgs-interfaith-institute-adds-new-position-endowed-by-the-el-hibri-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/now\/2022\/02\/22\/augsburgs-interfaith-institute-adds-new-position-endowed-by-the-el-hibri-family\/","title":{"rendered":"Augsburg\u2019s Interfaith Institute adds new position endowed by the El-Hibri family"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2021, <strong>Fuad and Nancy El-Hibri<\/strong> gave a significant gift to Augsburg University to create the El-Hibri Endowed Chair and Executive Directorship for the Interfaith Institute.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/interfaith\/\">Interfaith at Augsburg: An Institute to Promote Interreligious Leadership<\/a> was established in 2019 as part of Augsburg\u2019s commitment to interfaith learning and leadership. The newly endowed position will allow the university to hire a strategic leader and distinguished scholar to provide direction for the institute and serve as a member of the faculty. The El-Hibri chair will serve as a national ambassador for the interfaith movement and will partner with campus leaders as a change agent for interreligious learning and living.<\/p>\n<p>The El-Hibris\u2019 gift will help to fulfill one of the goals of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/strategic-plan\/\">Augsburg150<\/a>, the university\u2019s sesquicentennial strategic plan, to advance the public purposes of an Augsburg education by enhancing interfaith leadership on campus and throughout the nation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe live in a world that is religiously diverse, and allowing religions to thrive is a step in the right direction,\u201d said <strong>Fuad El-Hibri<\/strong>. \u201cBut it is not enough. Interfaith dialogue, learning from one another, and engaging together in meaningful work is what it\u2019s truly all about.
