Douglas called StepUP\u00ae a revolutionary program, as it currently is the largest\u00a0residential\u00a0collegian\u00a0recovery program in the U.S. The program is dedicated to\u00a0students\u00a0in recovery from drug of alcohol abuse and provides a sober\u00a0living\u00a0environment\u00a0and\u00a0counseling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1a1a1a; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: medium;\"> &#8220;I look at it as a parent. If you have a\u00a0student\u00a0who is newly in recovery, has been sober and now you think about sending them off to college, that\u00a0would\u00a0be my worst nightmare, so to have a safe and supportive environment that they can come to that is clean and sober with other students, it really makes sense and creates an unique\u00a0environment,\u201d expressed Mike about the importance of having such program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1a1a1a; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: medium;\">The program began after a student in recovery shared\u00a0his\u00a0need for a sober environment, explained Mike. The student expressed that his experience would have been easier if he had a community who was also in recovery with him.
