{"id":5598,"date":"2015-03-19T19:29:06","date_gmt":"2015-03-19T19:29:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/news\/?p=5598"},"modified":"2024-10-16T18:45:19","modified_gmt":"2024-10-16T18:45:19","slug":"2015-scripps-spelling-bee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/news\/2015\/03\/19\/2015-scripps-spelling-bee\/","title":{"rendered":"Regional spelling bee March 21 at Augsburg College"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Winner will advance\u00a0to Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/03\/SpellingBee.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2015\/03\/SpellingBee.gif\" alt=\"SpellingBee\" width=\"96\" height=\"94\" \/><\/a>(MINNEAPOLIS) \u2013 Fifty middle- and junior-high school students from throughout the seven-county Metro area will compete at Augsburg College in the 2015 regional spelling bee on March 21 at Hoversten Chapel at Augsburg College.<\/p>\n<p>The winner of the regional spelling bee will be sent by Augsburg College with a parent or guardian to the Scripps National Spelling Bee (<a href=\"http:\/\/spellingbee.com\/\">http:\/\/spellingbee.com\/<\/a>) scheduled from May 24-29 in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>Event Details<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Schedule\n<ul>\n<li>11 a.m. \u2013 Registration<\/li>\n<li>12:30 p.m. \u2013 Competition begins<\/li>\n<li>Event ends when all but one speller is eliminated, typically within 4-6 hours from the start of competition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Head Judge: Dennis Bluhm has served as the Head Judge for the State Spelling Bee for the past 12 years. He has served during the past 45 years as an elementary school principal and teacher. Currently, he teaches 6th grade in St. Paul.<\/li>\n<li>Pronouncer: David Talarico has been an official spelling bee pronouncer since 2006. He lives in Minneapolis, and works for Shapco Printing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Augsburg College is set in a vibrant neighborhood at the heart of the Twin Cities, and offers more than 50 undergraduate majors and nine graduate degrees to more than 4,000 students of diverse backgrounds.
