{"id":3844,"date":"2014-03-08T13:19:48","date_gmt":"2014-03-08T19:19:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/inside.augsburg.edu\/news\/?p=3844"},"modified":"2024-10-16T18:37:20","modified_gmt":"2024-10-16T18:37:20","slug":"advisory-regional-spelling-bee-march-15-at-augsburg-college","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/news\/2014\/03\/08\/advisory-regional-spelling-bee-march-15-at-augsburg-college\/","title":{"rendered":"Advisory: Regional spelling bee March 15 at Augsburg College"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2014\/03\/SpellingBee.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2014\/03\/SpellingBee.gif\" alt=\"SpellingBee\" width=\"96\" height=\"94\" \/><\/a>Fifty middle- and junior-high school students from throughout the seven-county Metro area will compete at Augsburg College in the 2014 regional spelling bee on March 15 at Hoversten Chapel at Augsburg College.\u00a0The winner of the regional spelling bee<!--more--> will be sent by\u00a0Augsburg College with a parent or guardian to the <a title=\"Scripps National Spelling Bee website\" href=\"http:\/\/spellingbee.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scripps National Spelling Bee<\/a>\u00a0scheduled from May 25-31 in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>Event Details<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Schedule\n<ul>\n<li>11 a.m. \u2013 Registration<\/li>\n<li>12:30 p.m. \u2013 Competition begins<\/li>\n<li>Event ends when all but one speller is eliminated, typically within 4-6 hours from the start of competition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Head Judge: Dennis Bluhm has served as the Head Judge for the State Spelling Bee for the past 11 years. He has served during the past 44 years as an elementary school principal and teacher. Currently, he teaches 6th grade in St. Paul.<\/li>\n<li>Pronouncer: David Talarico has been an official spelling bee pronouncer since 2006. He lives in Minneapolis, and works for Shapco Printing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Augsburg College first hosted the regional spelling bee during 2013.
