This course gives Augsburg officers the skills to safely negotiate urban hazards such as stairs and motor vehicles. The training includes the skills needed to take down and restrain a subject while riding a bike.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBicycles are a fantastic way to patrol campus,\u201d director of Public Safety John Pack said. \u201cOfficers can take a bike to every corner of campus, including places a vehicle simply can\u2019t go. Plus, an officer on a bike is more connected with the community.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The bikes will supplement the vehicles already on patrol. Pack added that they are purchasing a second vehicle this fall to help meet the demands for escorts.<\/p>\n<p>The class is being taught by Kirby Beck, a retired police officer and one of the founders of IPMBA. Beck helped develop the original curriculum and is a much sought after instructor.
