  {"id":326,"date":"2013-03-14T00:00:56","date_gmt":"2013-03-14T05:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/inside.augsburg.edu\/news\/?p=326"},"modified":"2025-03-06T16:43:35","modified_gmt":"2025-03-06T16:43:35","slug":"fifth-powwow-to-celebrate-cultures-traditions-of-native-american-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/news\/2013\/03\/14\/fifth-powwow-to-celebrate-cultures-traditions-of-native-american-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Fifth powwow to celebrate cultures, traditions of Native American students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-327\" src=\"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/29\/2013\/03\/Powwow.jpg\" alt=\"Powwow\" width=\"173\" height=\"279\" \/>A powwow to celebrate the traditions and cultures of Augsburg Native American students and the Twin Cities community will be held March 23 in the College&#8217;s Si Melby gymnasium.<\/p>\n<p>The powwow\u2014now in its fifth year\u2014is an opportunity for Augsburg&#8217;s indigenous students to share their traditions and culture with the community, according to Jennifer Simon, event organizer and director of Augsburg&#8217;s American Indian Student Services.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Each year, nearly a dozen students help me organize the powwow and learn all the details involved in planning a large cultural event for both the campus and the surrounding community,&#8221; Simon said.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The powwow, which features grand entries at 1 and 6 p.m., is cohosted by Augsburg&#8217;s American Indian Student Services and Indigenous Student Association. Registration for drums and dancers begins at 11 a.m., and there is no pre-registration allowed.
