<\/em>SCHOOL OF THE AMERICAS LAMENT<\/h2>\n

Western Hemisphere Institute:<\/p>\n

perhaps the west has the best<\/p>\n

divisive world-wise<\/p>\n

ways to instruct the enforcers of lies<\/p>\n

in devices of domination:<\/p>\n

they call it the Institute for Security Cooperation.<\/p>\n

But for its students, for their victims in central and South American nations,<\/p>\n

it’s still the School of Assassins,<\/p>\n

an American abomination.<\/p>\n

The Americas are in their own dark ages–<\/p>\n

it’s time to acknowledge what history teaches.<\/p>\n

Torture training, now it’s feigning<\/p>\n

innocence–ever since<\/p>\n

the innocents just standing by<\/p>\n

were in the way and forced to die<\/p>\n

along with those who had something to say.<\/p>\n

Asking the wrong questions, questioning their reasons,<\/p>\n

those priests and leaders were taken away.<\/p>\n

Found dead, raped or tortured<\/p>\n

like the regimes ordered<\/p>\n

–as if the violence could really silence the people–<\/p>\n

not the insurgents being bombed or mortared,<\/p>\n

but the citizens being nickeled and dimed and quartered.<\/p>\n

Divided, undecided–it’s hard to move forward.<\/p>\n

Counter-intelligence,<\/p>\n

Counter-insurgents\u2026<\/p>\n

Count the victims of injustice.<\/p>\n

Include its students.<\/p>\n

Include the police and the special agents<\/p>\n

–even the protesters in their \u2018freedom cages.’<\/p>\n

But this is the age of our emergence.<\/p>\n

Emergency powers in fateful hours can’t stop the people from asking penance.<\/p>\n

Keep on asking, keep on shouting,<\/p>\n

swarm the gates and keep on crowding.<\/p>\n

It’s hard to move forward,<\/p>\n

but when the gates give way,<\/p>\n

when policies loosen so hearts can open (or will it go the other way?)<\/p>\n

we’ll flood in towards freedom,<\/p>\n

our guards will be lowered,<\/p>\n

and we can move forward<\/p>\n

day by day<\/p>\n

with just one more word:<\/p>\n
