Legendary coach Edor Nelson ’38 honored by community, media
Legendary Auggie coach, athlete and instructor Edor Nelson ’38 died August 27 at the age of 100. Nelson, who led the Auggie football and baseball teams for nearly four decades, died only nine days after a centennial birthday celebration at Augsburg where hundreds of friends and Auggies听turned out to听honor听him. Auggie Sarah Jane Perbix ’06 on ‘Late Show with David Letterman’
Augsburg alumna Sarah Jane (Elhardt) Perbix ’06 performed with Minnesota’s rising star Jeremy Messersmith on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” Perbix, who majored in music and marketing communication, plays keyboards and sings with Messersmith. Augsburg named among most LGBT-friendly colleges in U.S.
Augsburg College was named to Campus Pride’s 2014 list of听the听Top 50 LGBT-Friendly Colleges. Campus Pride, a nonprofit organization aimed at creating more LGBT-friendly colleges, compiled the list from听schools that achieved the highest ratings in categories such as LGBT academic life, LGBT student life, LGBT housing, and more. In 2013, Campus Pride awarded Augsburg College a perfect score of听5 out of 5 stars on its听LGBT-Friendly Campus Climate Index.
Auggie named to leadership post for Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe
Catherine Colsrud ’14 recently was named commissioner of administration for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe. According to the Brainerd Dispatch, Colsrud, who holds a degree in business administration, will provide oversight of the commissioners of community development, health and human services, natural resources and environment. Mark Muhich ’89 re-elected to Range Mental Health Center Board
Mark Muhich ’89 was re-elected to continue service on the Board of Directors for the Range Mental Health Center. Muhich, who has served on the Board since 2006, graduated from Augsburg College with a bachelor of arts in English and political science. He lives and practices law in Virginia, Minn. Augsburg College alumnus Cris Gears ’73 will retire from a life of service to the public, most recently as superintendent of Three Rivers Park District. Gears has served the cities of St. Louis Park and Excelsior, and many more communities and organizations.
Michael Howard ’05 runs for Richfield City Council
Augsburg College alumnus Michael Howard ’05, who currently serves as communications director for the Minnesota House DFL caucus, will run for a position on the Richfield City Council, according to a Sun Current news brief.
