\u201cEndowment\u201d is a collection of individual funds pooled together for investment purposes to provide annual financial support for all the university such as teaching, research, financial aid, and maintenance. Endowment refers to assets invested in perpetuity, unlike expendable funds typically used for current-year needs.<\/span><\/p>\n
Endowment funds offer donors a meaningful way to provide a foundation of support for students today, tomorrow, and into the future. At Augsburg, we think of it as the seed that anchors a strong, thriving, and fruitful mission. Once a gift is given, it\u2019s invested to generate growth and income. Every year, as the long-term, interest-earning investment in Augsburg\u2019s future grows, a percentage (the fruit of that investment) is granted to students in the form of scholarships. Endowments are often named for donors and designated for specific purposes. They are established according to the donor\u2019s interests and stipulations<\/span><\/p>\n
WhY endowments?<\/h2>\n
Endowment funds provide a steady, predictable source of income over time. This predictable income offers stability against economic downturns or political or regulatory climate fluctuations, allowing the university to make multi-year commitments and build programs.<\/span><\/p>\n
Through endowment resources, activities that might not otherwise have had a chance to exist can be supported. Faculty members who hold <\/span>endowed professorships<\/span><\/a> \u2014 faculty appointments supported by annual funding from an endowment gift \u2014 benefit from enhanced teaching and research opportunities and increased prestige. Students benefit from <\/span>scholarships<\/span><\/a>, fellowships, programs, and research initiatives that endowments make possible.<\/span><\/p>\n

Augsburg\u2019s main sources of income come from tuition revenue, grants, and private support, including new gifts and the annual draw from the endowment funds.
