  {"id":48701,"date":"2020-11-12T02:04:22","date_gmt":"2020-11-12T02:04:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/faculty\/?page_id=48701"},"modified":"2022-11-08T14:10:05","modified_gmt":"2022-11-08T14:10:05","slug":"malchow-lloyd-rachel","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/faculty\/malchow-lloyd-rachel\/","title":{"rendered":"Malchow Lloyd, Rachel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rachel Malchow Lloyd, Ph.D., taught secondary English Language Arts for fourteen years, and joined the Augsburg faculty in 2014.\u00a0 She earned her teaching license and a bachelor\u2019s degree magna cum laude in English and Media Studies at Carleton College.\u00a0 She completed her master\u2019s degree in English Education and doctorate in Literacy Education at the University of Minnesota.\u00a0\u00a0 Dr. Lloyd&#8217;s primary research interests include critical literacy, diverse young adult literature, dialogic classrooms and collaborative teacher development.\u00a0\u00a0 Dr. Lloyd was initially trained in Paideia practices for supporting students\u2019 acquisition of seminar discussion skills in 2005, and has been serving as the co-director of Augsburg\u2019s Paideia Program since 2017.<\/p>\n<p>In the Education Department, Dr. Lloyd\u2019s serves our students through courses focused on secondary level teaching methods and content-area literacy courses which meet Minnesota Board of Teaching standards in reading, writing, literature, and media literacy.\u00a0 She regularly supervises teacher candidates, and facilitates Education Teacher Performance Seminar for Secondary and K-12 teacher candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Lloyd mentors Augsburg students seeking to earn their Minnesota teaching license in English: Communication Arts &amp; Literature, grades 5-12.\u00a0 Prospective English teachers should declare English: Communication Arts &amp; Literature as their major, and a concentration in Secondary Education.<\/p>\n<p>Current and prospective students are invited to meet with Dr. Lloyd any open time Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.\u00a0 Please email or send a Google calendar invitation for a 30 minute meeting at your preferred date and time, and include your preferred modality (Zoom or phone).<\/p>\n<h2>Publications<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Lloyd, R.M.
