Karen began teaching calculus in 1989 at the University of Minnesota while completing her MS and MEd in mathematics. She has taught AP Calculus since 1998.<\/p>\n<p>Karen has been an AP Reader since 2006 and a Question Leader for the past three years. She is an AP Mentor for AB and BC Calculus. Karen has been on the AP Calculus Development Committee and was a member of the Course and Exam Description (CED) writing team. She has recorded AP Daily videos for the BC Calculus and Precalculus AP Classrooms, and created AP Student Practice samples and videos for the AB Calculus AP Classroom.<\/p>\n<p>Karen is the recipient of the 2009 Minnesota Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. She is the Past President of the Minnesota Council of Teachers of Mathematics and has served on the Board of Directors for NCSM: Math Ed Leadership, the Council of Presidential Awardees in Mathematics, and SciMathMN. She is the author of the Teacher\u2019s Edition for the Miranda-Sullivan AP Calculus textbook and on the writing team for NCTM\u2019s upcomingbook on reimagining high school mathematics. Karen represented NCTM on an MAA\/NCTM Calculus Policy Task Force to revise the joint position statement on calculus.
