The Public Safety officers are well-trained professionals in first aid, defensive tactics, drug recognition, investigation, and emergency response. \u00a0We work with the Minneapolis Police Department and other law enforcement agencies as necessary to respond to any situations concerning the safety of the Augsburg community.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the services that are provided to the community are immediate response to medical emergencies, responding to crimes in progress or suspicious persons, and additional courtesy services, including escorts. The department is also responsible for the campus-wide <a title=\"Emergency Notifications\" href=\"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/dps\/emergency-preparedness\/#notification\">Emergency Notification<\/a> system.<\/p>\n<p>Below is a snapshot of what we do on campus, along with links to the applicable pages.<\/p>\n<h2>24-hour Service<\/h2>\n<p>The Department of Public Safety operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the Minneapolis campus. We maintain a 24-hour Dispatch Center located in the Urness\/Mortensen Hall lobby.<\/p>\n<h2>Patrols and Surveillance<\/h2>\n<p>Officers make frequent patrols of all the academic buildings and parking lots. Suspicious persons or activity on-campus should be reported to DPS by dialing x1717 from a campus phone, or (612) 330-1717 from an off-campus or cell phone.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/dps\/parking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Parking Permits and Enforcement<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>To manage the parking we have on-campus for students, faculty, staff &amp; visitors, our officers patrol parking lots regularly. If you see a vehicle parked illegally, you may contact DPS at (612) 330-1717 to request enforcement. Make a note of the vehicle&#8217;s location, make, model, color, and license plate, if possible.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/dps\/services\/escort\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Escorts<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Officers and student patrols are available for walking and driving escorts from on-campus locations to other on-campus locations, and to select-locations. Walking escorts from campus to campus locations are available 24 hours a day. Driving escorts between on-campus and approved off-campus locations are available from dusk until dawn. Driving escorts to medical facilities for non-emergency purposes are available 24 hours a day. For a list of approved locations, time frames, and other information, please see our escort service page.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/dps\/reports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reports<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>DPS officers are available 24 hours a day to take reports from anyone who experiences a crime on campus. Please contact (612) 330-1717 to have an officer dispatched to your location. You may also make a walk-up report at the Dispatch Center. An online report system is available for certain non-emergency incidents; please visit our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/dps\/services\/reports\/\">Report a Crime or Concern<\/a> page to file an online report.\u00a0 You may also report a crime, suspicious activity or concern anonymously using the CampusShield app iReport feature.\u00a0 Please visit our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/dps\/services\/reports\/\">Report a Crime or Concern<\/a> page for more information on the CampusShield app and the iReport feature.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us\/police\/report\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Minneapolis Police Department<\/a> also has an online incident reporting form available on their website for types of incidents such as theft (&lt;$1000), lost property, or damage to property.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re unsure who to contact for a report, please call Public Safety at 612-330-1717, and we&#8217;ll help you contact the appropriate authorities.<\/p>\n<h2>Medical<\/h2>\n<p>We work toward keeping all of our officers certified as emergency medical responders (EMR) to better assist the community in the case of a serious medical situation.\u00a0 In the event of a medical emergency, call DPS and tell the dispatcher your name, location, and what the emergency situation is so an officer can be sent to assist you right away.<\/p>\n<h2>Motor Assist &#8211; Jump-starts<\/h2>\n<p>DPS has a courtesy jump-start service for vehicles parked on campus property. Please note that jump-starts may not be available depending on inclement weather and call-volume. If DPS officers are unable to assist you or if their attempts fail, a local service station can be called for you, but you will need to pay the private vendor for the cost of the service provided.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, due to liability concerns, we are unable to provide jump-starts to cars parked off-campus. Rapid Recovery towing is available to perform jump-starts, lock-outs, and flat-tire changes, at cost to the individual requesting the services. Rapid Recovery can be found <a title=\"Rapid Recovery MN\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rapidrecoverymn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">online<\/a>, or reached by phone at\u00a0(612) 343-0022.<\/p>\n<h2>Motor Assist &#8211; VEHICLE UNLOCK<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you lock your keys in your car, DPS provides a vehicle unlock service free of charge to the Augsburg community 24 hours a day for vehicles parked in Augsburg lots or on the street on campus. Before unlocking a vehicle, DPS will verify that the person making the request is an Augsburg student, faculty member, staff member, or affiliated guest and that they are the registered owner of the vehicle. The requestor will also be required to fill out a waiver. To request a vehicle unlock, call DPS at (612) 330-1717, use the CampusShield app, or stop by the dispatch center in the Urness\/Mortensen Hall lobby.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Lock-outs<\/h2>\n<p>If you lock your keys in your office or dorm room, DPS officers are available to grant you access into your space. For students, your first lock-out is free, then there is a $20 charge to your student account for each subsequent lock-out. To request lock-out assistance, call DPS at (612) 330-1717 and give the dispatcher your name, student ID number and room location.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/dps\/services\/locksmith\/\">Keys and Fobs<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>DPS houses most departmental keys that are regularly checked out by various staff members throughout the University. You must be added to the access list to check keys out. Your professor, department chair, or department manager must make requests on your behalf to be added to the access list. To request access to check out keys, please fill out the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.augsburg.edu\/dps\/Key%20Access%20List.xlsx\">key access list authorization form<\/a>, and email the completed form to &#x70;u&#x62;&#108;&#x69;&#x63;s&#x61;&#102;&#x65;&#x74;y&#x40;&#97;&#x75;&#x67;s&#x62;&#117;&#x72;&#x67;&#46;&#x65;&#100;&#x75;.<\/p>\n<p>Visit the locksmith page for further information about lost\/stolen or to request new fobs.<\/p>\n<h2>POWERED STAIR CHAIR<\/h2>\n<p>All DPS officers are trained to use Augsburg\u2019s Xpedition powered stair chair, which supports safe transportation of up to 500 lbs up and down stairs and across a variety of terrains. The stair chair may be used in an emergency evacuation, in response to an accident or injury, or when unexpected mobility challenges arise for individuals on campus.
