She is passionate about the PA profession and serves as a Director-at-Large for the Minnesota Academy of PAs. She recently finished coursework to become a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) and is working towards becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She is very much looking forward to her first adjunct role at Augsburg!\n\nAlannah loves teaching and learning and would tell you that she is interested in everything! She has served in many roles in the fields of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Chicago, the Mayo Clinic and her current outpatient practice in the Twin Cities. She was appointed Academic Instructor by the Mayo Clinic and published original research in the Obstetrics &amp; Gynecology green journal.\n\nMegan has a deep-seated passion for Women\u2019s Health and specializes in surgical management. As an accomplished Physician Assistant (PA) and educator, Dr. Soran has made significant contributions to the advancement of the PA profession, particularly in the realm of leadership and clinical education.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In her role as Program Director, Dr. Soran has been instrumental in shaping the DMSc program, which focuses on preparing PAs for leadership roles within healthcare systems. Under her leadership, the program emphasizes trauma-informed care, equity in healthcare, and the development of scholarly leaders who can drive systemic change in clinical and administrative settings. Her work creating and growing the program reflects her deep commitment to the PA profession and the need for advanced clinical education beyond traditional healthcare roles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to her administrative role, Dr. Soran holds an academic appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor at Augsburg University. She teaches in the Physician Assistant and DMSc programs, bringing a wealth of clinical experience, leadership, and research to the classroom. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes evidence-based practice, leadership development, and integrating trauma-informed care into healthcare practices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Soran has a clinical background in gastroenterology and college health. She continues to work in clinical practice, integrating trauma-informed care to enhance patient outcomes. In addition, Dr. Soran shares her expertise in creating trauma-informed organizations and leadership through publications, consulting, and speaking engagements, fostering organizational cultures of empowerment, trust, and collaboration. Through her work, she continues to influence the transformation of healthcare systems across the state and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Soran&#8217;s leadership in Augsburg University&#8217;s DMSc program, combined with her clinical and academic expertise, establishes her as a thought leader in the PA profession and healthcare education. Reflecting on her journey, Dr. Soran states, \u201cPAs are an essential part of providing high-quality and accessible care. She is outside and smiling at the camera\" width=\"272\" height=\"272\" \/><\/h3>\n<p><strong><em>Director of the School of Health, Associate Academic Officer<br \/>\nAssociate Professor, Physician Associate Medicine<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\"><strong>About Me:<\/strong> Dr. Vanessa Bester is the Director of the School of Health at Augsburg University, overseeing the PA, nursing, Doctor of Clinical Psychology, and social work programs. In addition to her administrative role, Dr. Bester serves as faculty for both the Master of Science in PA Studies (MSPAS) and Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) programs, helping shape the next generation of healthcare leaders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">A former National Health Service Corps Scholar, Dr. Bester has practiced in diverse healthcare settings including community health, HIV primary care, pulmonary and critical care, cardiology, and military medicine as a civilian overseas. She currently provides care for marginalized communities in St. Paul and Minneapolis neighborhoods through the Augsburg Health Commons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Dr. Bester&#8217;s journey in PA education began in 2003 as a preceptor and PA student coordinator with the Graduate Medical Education Office at Shands Jacksonville-University of Florida. In 2012, she transitioned to full-time academia as a founding faculty member at the University of Washington MEDEX-NW Tacoma Site, eventually becoming their site director. In 2017, she joined Augsburg University as an Associate Director with a charge to align the PA program with the values and mission of the University and the needs of its students and surrounding communities. She became PA Program Director in 2021 and is the first tenured PA faculty at Augsburg University, a distinction earned by few PAs in academia.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Jeffrey Clement, PhD<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/faculty\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/94\/2023\/10\/20181012_Jeff-Clement-SQUARE.jpg\" alt=\"Jeff Clement\" width=\"269\" height=\"270\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>Assistant Professor, Business of Healthcare Professor<\/em><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Clement co-teaches <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Business of Healthcare<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014a core course in Augsburg\u2019s Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) program. Together, he and Dr. Lauren Peterson brings complementary expertise that creates a deep and meaningful learning experience tailored specifically for PAs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Clement has a diverse background spanning military service, healthcare leadership, and academic research. A former Marine Corps officer, he deployed twice to Afghanistan before transitioning to the healthcare industry, where he worked as a Brand Manager and Marketing Director in special care and rare disease management. His research explores the intersection of people and data, focusing on how patients and providers interpret AI\/ML outputs in clinical decision-making and applying empirical methods to policy questions in pharmaceuticals and emergency medicine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As an educator, Dr. Clement emphasizes the ethical and practical use of data in healthcare, teaching students to work with real-world datasets and industry tools such as R, Tableau, and SQL. He has a particular passion for data visualization as a way to enhance insight and communication. He serves as Principal Adjunct Faculty in Augsburg University\u2019s Doctor of Medical Science program, where he lectures, advises research, and teaches the scholar-practitioner course series. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He completed his undergraduate <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">studies at the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in neurobiology. He moved to Minnesota to attend the Bethel University PA Program and shortly after, completed his DMSc degree at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Middleton has a strong background in research and leadership. His research interests include dermatology, dermoscopy, PA compensation, and exploring how the delivery of primary care can be improved. He is a previous 2023-2024 AAPA-PAEA Research Fellow, where he focused on investigating both the utilization of dermoscopy amongst practicing PAs and dermoscopy education in PA programs and its association with skin lesion evaluation confidence. He has led and co-led multiple other research projects, including co-publishing expert consensus recommendations on dermoscopy proficiency standards for PAs to help guide dermoscopy education during and after PA training. Dr. Middleton regularly presents his research and clinical expertise at state and national conferences and continues to regularly publish scholarly work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Middleton is an active member of the Minnesota Academy of Physician Associates (MAPA) board, having served as Director-at-Large, President, and DEI Committee chair. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clinically, he has worked in family medicine for his entire career, with a special interest in preventative care, dermatology, dermoscopy, and LGBTQIA+ medicine. PA Clayton has been involved with medical education for over 15 years including clinically precepting PA, NP, and<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">\u00a0medical students and serving as a PA faculty member since 2014. She joined Augsburg&#8217;s DMSc program as an adjunct faculty member in 2025.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">PA Clayton\u2019s leadership experience includes formal positions in healthcare administration and extensive service in professional academy leadership, and leading numerous successful\u00a0legislative change\u00a0initiatives on behalf of the PA profession to benefit patient care.\u00a0 She is serving her 7th term on the American Academy of Physician Associates Board of Directors and is the current Speaker of the House of Delegates and Vice President of the AAPA Board of Directors. She then returned to St. Catherine University for her Master of Physician Assistant Studies\u00a0(MPAS) in 2014 and later obtained a Doctoral degree with a concentration in Administrative Medicine from the University of Lynchburg.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With extensive experience in primary care, Lauren has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including a federally qualified health center where she provided comprehensive care to underserved populations. She currently serves as the Director of a college health clinic, where she oversees medical services, leads health initiatives, and ensures quality patient care. Additionally, she continues to practice in correctional health, delivering essential healthcare to vulnerable communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Passionate about healthcare administration, clinical informatics, and quality improvement, Lauren is dedicated to optimizing patient care through innovative medical solutions and operational efficiencies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Originally from Nevada, she has called Minnesota home since 2012. With over a decade of medical experience, she currently practices in a community-based primary care setting, providing comprehensive, patient-centered care.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Strelow brings a dynamic combination of clinical insight and organizational leadership to every role she holds. She was a founding faculty member and Clinical Co-Director of a physician assistant program, where she played a key role in shaping curriculum design and mentoring future PAs. Her clinical background includes internal medicine, urgent care, retail-based care, and hematology, allowing her to lead with both<br \/>\nbreadth and depth of experience.<\/p>\n<p>As Past President of the Minnesota Academy of Physician Associates (MAPA), Dr. Strelow has championed initiatives focused on PA advocacy and professional development across the state. She also contributes to national policy and public awareness through her work with the AAPA Commission of the Public and the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice PA Advisory Council.<\/p>\n<p>A respected voice in medical education and scholarship, Dr. Strelow has authored peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and abstracts and presented her work at conferences locally, nationally, and internationally.
