  {"id":8088,"date":"2012-09-01T22:08:50","date_gmt":"2012-09-02T03:08:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/?page_id=8088"},"modified":"2024-07-10T20:44:08","modified_gmt":"2024-07-10T20:44:08","slug":"health-insurance","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/cwc\/student-health-care\/health-insurance\/","title":{"rendered":"Health Insurance \/ Medication"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Βι¶ΉΤ­΄΄ HEALTH INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS<\/h2>\n<p>Augsburg students are not required to have health insurance.\u00a0 However, you are strongly encouraged to pursue insurance coverage, as there are now many affordable options through the Affordable Care Act. \u00a0Many of our students who come from low-income households, or who are not taken as a dependent on a parent&#8217;s tax return, find that they qualify for free or very low cost insurance through federal or state programs like Medical Assistance and Minnesota Care. \u00a0There is a lot of support available for figuring this out (see &#8220;<em>ACA\/Obamacare<\/em>&#8221; section below).<\/p>\n<p>If you are from outside Minnesota or from outside the Twin Cities area, make sure that your policy covers you in Minneapolis. \u00a0If not, please contact your company to see if it&#8217;s possible to make special arrangements for out-of-area coverage.<\/p>\n<p>If your parents have insurance, the Affordable Care Act allows students to stay on their parents&#8217; policy until the age of 26.<\/p>\n<p><em>If you do not have insurance, here are some helpful resources to check out.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Minnesota state insurance programs \/ affordable care act<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Minnesota State Insurance Programs \u2013 three types of help with health insurance costs are available in Minnesota:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medical Assistance \u2013 Minnesota\u2019s Medicaid program for people with low income (no monthly premium, very low co-pays for some services).\u00a0 You can apply any time of year for MA.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MinnesotaCare \u2013 a program for Minnesotans with low incomes who do not have access to affordable health care coverage (monthly premium based on your income).\u00a0 You can apply any time for year for MNCare.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Qualified Health Plan through the Affordable Care Act &#8212; financial help in the form of tax credits for people who qualify.\u00a0 You must apply during the annual enrollment period.\u00a0 If you experience a major life event, such as turning 26, you may apply outside the enrollment period.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Note that in determining eligibility for college students, your parents\u2019 income may be counted if they claim you as a tax dependent (this is true even if you do not live with them or are <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">temporarily away at college).\u00a0 To determine your eligibility, use the MNSure website below.\u00a0 If you have questions or need assistance enrolling, contact Health Access MN below for free assistance (recommended as this is their specialty), or find a MNSure Navigator through the \u201cAssister Directory\u201d on the MNSure website below (the closest navigator to Augsburg is at the People\u2019s Center).\u00a0 Note that the application can be somewhat complicated so having navigator support is recommended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthaccess.mn\/#vistvist\">Health Access<\/a>\u00a0 Health insurance enrollment help from MNSure certified navigators.\u00a0 Call to make an online appointment.\u00a0 They will help determine which of the three types of help noted above you qualify for, and assist with the actual enrollment process.651-645-0215<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mnsure.org\/\">MNsure <\/a>&#8211; Health insurance exchange that provides a one-stop health insurance marketplace where Minnesotans can find and compare plans and choose the coverage that fits their needs. Based on your income, MNSure will also let you know if you qualify for free or low cost insurance through the state or federal insurance programs \u00a0(Medical Assistance or Minnesota Care).1-855-366-7873<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mnsure.org\/help\/find-assister\/\">Assister Network<\/a> to find someone to help \u00a0you with your application. \u00a0Navigators and assisters are available through many community health clinics, including the People&#8217;s Center Clinic (across the street from Augsburg), Community-University Health Care, Smiley&#8217;s Clinic, and Native American Community Clinic.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mn.gov\/dhs\/people-we-serve\/adults\/health-care\/health-care-programs\/programs-and-services\/daca.jsp\">MNCare Eligibility for DACA grantees<\/a> (Minnesota Department of Health)\u00a0\u00a0DACA students can apply for Minnesota Care. DACA students have to fill out a paper application and fax it in.\u00a0 This can take about a month to process.\u00a0 You can google the application as paper application as &#8220;DHS 6696 form&#8221;.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ng-binding\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>International Student Health Insurance Programs<\/h2>\n<p>International students (F-1 &amp; J-1 students and their dependents) are required to have adequate health insurance during their study program. The ISSS office asks that international students enroll in Augsburg University\u2019s group plans.
