In order to graduate, <strong>all students must achieve at least MPG3<\/strong>. However, some courses require students to achieve MPG4 as a prerequisite.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Students with disabilities may request accommodations<\/strong> for placement tests through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/class\/\">Augsburg CLASS\/Disability Resources office<\/a>. To request accommodations, call <a href=\"tel:612-330-1053\">612-330-1053<\/a> or email <a href=\"m&#97;&#105;&#x6c;&#x74;&#x6f;&#x3a;c&#108;&#97;&#115;&#x73;&#x40;&#x61;ug&#115;&#98;&#x75;&#x72;&#x67;&#46;e&#100;&#117;\">&#x63;&#x6c;&#x61;&#115;&#115;&#64;a&#x75;&#x67;&#x73;&#x62;&#117;&#114;g&#46;&#x65;&#x64;&#x75;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"MathInstructions\">Placement test instructions<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/inside.augsburg.edu\/techdesk\/account-activation\/\">Activate your Augsburg Account<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Log into <a href=\"https:\/\/inside.augsburg.edu\/\">Inside Augsburg<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Log into <a href=\"https:\/\/moodle.augsburg.edu\/moodle2021\/auth\/shibboleth\/index.php\">Moodle<\/a> on the left menu<\/li>\n<li>Click on \u201cAll Courses\u201d in the top menu \u2192 select \u201cCourses 2021-23\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Click on \u201cMath Placement Test\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Complete the Math History Questionnaire and Academic Honesty Statement\n<ul>\n<li>These are both required before starting the placement exam<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Select \u201cbegin the test\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 id=\"faq\">FAQs<\/h2>\n<p><strong>What if I don&#8217;t see the math placement test option in my Moodle?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please email &#x61;&#100;v&#x69;&#115;&#105;&#x6e;&#x67;&#64;a&#x75;&#103;s&#x62;&#x75;&#114;g&#x2e;&#101;d&#x75; and we will work quickly to get you access.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can I get the math placement test waived?<\/strong><br \/>\nYou do not need to take the math placement test if you have completed the following in the past five years:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Transferred in a course equivalent to College Algebra, Precalculus, or Calculus with a grade of C-, or via test score with <a href=\"https:\/\/web.augsburg.edu\/registrar\/transfer\/creditbyexam\/clep.pdf\">College Level Examination Program (CLEP)<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/web.augsburg.edu\/registrar\/transfer\/creditbyexam\/ap.pdf\">Advanced Placement (AP) exam<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Students planning to major in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Mathematics Secondary Education must achieve MPG4. <\/em><br \/>\nIf you are planning to major in one of the above mentioned majors, you do not need to complete the math placement test if you have completed the following in the past five years:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Received a 26 or higher on their ACT math subscore <strong>AND<\/strong> successfully completed high school trigonometry, pre-calculus, or calculus.<\/li>\n<li>Received a C- or better in a college level Precalculus or Calculus course;<\/li>\n<li>Transferred in Precalculus or Calculus I on the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.augsburg.edu\/registrar\/transfer\/creditbyexam\/ap.pdf\">Advanced Placement (AP) exam<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>If I have a bachelor\u2019s degree or an associate degree consisting of 30 or more semester credits in general education prior to beginning classes at Augsburg, do I need to take the math placement test?<\/strong><br \/>\nFor students starting 2025 and beyond: If your major requires courses with a math placement prerequisite and you did not transfer in College Algebra, Precalc or Calculus &#8212; you will need to take the math placement test.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Which sections in the math placement test do I need to complete?<\/strong><br \/>\nTo achieve MPG3, students must complete the prealgebra and algebra sections. To achieve MPG4, students must complete the prealgebra, algebra, and precalculus sections.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do I interpret my math placement?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MPG1 = you must complete MAT 090 Prealgebra &amp; MAT 105 Applied Algebra (or MAT 106 Applied Algebra and Trigonometry [for STEM and Natural Science majors])<\/li>\n<li>MPG2 = you must complete MAT 105 Applied Algebra (or MAT 106 Applied Algebra and Trigonometry [for STEM and Natural Science majors])<\/li>\n<li>MPG3 = you have met the algebra proficiency graduation requirement<\/li>\n<li>MPG4 = you have met the algebra proficiency graduation requirement and can take MAT 145 Calculus I<\/li>\n<li>MPG5 = you have met the algebra proficiency graduation requirement and transferred in Calculus I<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How long is the test and what materials will I need?<\/strong><br \/>\nYou have 45 minutes to complete the test and it must be completed in one sitting.
